How Good is Corrybrough?

That’s the question I’m trying to ask myself. After three visually impressive performance, Henry Candy’s colt has improved to a genuine Group 1 performer, and I’d go as far to say he’ll be winning Group 1’s as well.

His first run this year was in a handicap at Sandown (Good), in which he clocked a time of 91.75 to par, Henry Candy reported he’d left plenty to work on with this strong galloping colt, and he duly improved again this time at Beverley (Good) in a Listed event, clocking 101.79 – that’s a genuine Group 1 performance on my clock, in the same vein as Sakhee’s Secret was last year when noted by myself.

Today Corrybrough clocked 101.55 at Sandown (Good-to-firm) in the Listed Scurry Stakes, and clearly still has plenty of improvement left with Ryan Moore not even reaching for the whip. He took a while to get going but when he got into his long powerhouse stride he came forward like a bullet to scythe down Inxile who can be regarded as extremely unlucky to have bumped into this sprinting machine, and he’ll be picking up black-type before long. I’d like to see Inxile head over to Ireland for a Listed or Group 3 event, where he would be a shoe-in.

Henry Candy was also responsible for Corrybrough’s sire Kyllachy who was somewhat of a sprinting machine, and he’ll know what to do best with this impressive sort. Reports suggest the Prix L’Abbeye at the end of the season is the main target, and Candy believes he’ll be even better next year which is frightening.

If he were mind I’d probably aim him towards the Sprint Cup at Haydock in September before his tilt in the Abbaye, I think he could be even better over six furlongs.
